Suggest me some option(s). My situation is possibly changing:
1) I currently commute 100 miles a day. It is set to go up to 135/ day. So MPG is one of the reasons for the post.
2) Currently I drive rural highways, 95% void of traffic. Infact, I average 25.5 - 26 mpg in my grand Marquis. Because its pretty much a incident free drive. The new drive will be thru Houston down town. Infact it’ll be 95% freeway. Some of the worst ones. So I am looking following options:
- Auto cruise control.
-don’t care for FWD / RWD.
Kinda don’t care for the car size, but occasionally I’ll have 2 car seats one booster seat in the rear. This si where he car size kinda becomes critical.
Total MSRP not too exceed 20k, that being I said I can find some examples for 14k.
The few options I have been ;looking at so far are:
- Used Lincoln MKZ hybrid
- Used Avalon Hybrid
- USed 2016 Passat SE with tech
- CPO MB E-250 (kinda pricey to buy and pricey to maintain long term)
I need more options.

A used Chevy Volt might be a good choice. Great mileage, and easily available in the greater Houston area for less than $20K.
And I’ve heard the quality is pretty good as well.

Ditch the SUV unless you actually use the utility on a regular basis . Robbing you MPG and overall cost. What other requirements do you have?
We just purchased a used Mazda3 Hatchback for $16K and it is far within your budget returning >30 mpg in almost all driving situations. Four doors, leatherette heated seats, room for costco/ikea.

You can probably snag a brand new left over 2017 Kia Niro for 20k or a bit under.
If not, I definitely recommend the MKZ

TSX Sportwagon. Not the most common vehicle though
Or, what about a Mazda 5? Essentially just a taller Mazda 3 with more room.

When you say “auto cruise control”, do you mean Adaptive Cruise? And “don’t care for FWD/RWD” means AWD only?
I’d say a Volt (FWD), Legacy with EyeSight (AWD), Golf with the DAP (FWD), or maybe even a Prius.

I mean, I don’t care if it is fwd / rwd. I don’t need AWD.
Yes Adaptive cruise control. Good for stop n go.

I figured as much. What do you expect your door-to-door time to be for each drive?
Do you need the radar cruise that can do the slow-speed stuff? If not, Mazda 6 could be an option.

Then I’d say a regular 2016+ Golf. About 36-38mpgs at 65mph and it has all of the toys. Sportwagen Limited if you want an extra 6” of space.
